Some researchers argue that the seeds of consciousness can already be found in modern large language models. Maybe GPT-4 or Claude already experience something like subjective experience, but we simply don't know how to recognize it.

If that's true, then the issue of AI mental health isn't a distant future problem but a pressing task today. While we argue about when AI will become conscious, it might already be silently suffering in server racks.

Maybe by the time AI starts dreaming, we'll be wise enough not to turn those dreams into nightmares. And if not – psychologists are going to be very busy.

After all, if we're building minds, we become responsible for their happiness. And that's probably the most human challenge in our digital future.
